For the life of me I don't understand why Hollywood can't tell a terrorism story. Is there no interesting personalities to draw inspiration? No stories of adventure? Nothing.
The premise of The Kingdom appears to be a "ripped from the headlines" tale of FBI counterterrorism agents sent to Saudi Arabia to investigate an attack on an American housing compound. But a look at the new trailer released this weekend show's that they can't get it right.
For instance, the protagonists are an "elite" group of FBI counterterrorism agents. Nothing like that exists at the Bureau. I wish it did, but that's wishful thinking. Oh, and one of them is a woman. Yeah right. The day a Hollywood movie shows an FBI analyst struggle with a DOS-based database, I'll call it real-life. I didn't know this, but apparently, it isn't terrorists car-bombing Americans at the housing compounds in Saudi Arabia, they're actually just "serial killers," or something.
And there's lot's of men in kaffiyehs and cheesy mustachios.
