Unpleasant Consequences

The Islamist threat to Spain rests on one point:  "What does the claim to Al-Andalus mean to them?"   By interviewing various North African scholars, a recent article in El Pais (OSC: EUP20070515178002) explores the Islamist myth of Al-Andalus and how it continues to fuel the threat to Spain:

Mohamed Tozy, the most published Moroccan political scientists in Europe, clarifies these opinions. "Al-Andalus is a myth, the myth of Muslim unity, of a great civilization, an alternative to the West, and ruled by Muslims," he explained. "While Al-Qa'ida is trying to revive this myth, it cannot be ruled out that, in the medium term, this will have unpleasant consequences in the area."
